At age 17, Canadian Walt Lawrence Jr. had just signed with a junior hockey club and was working on his pilot's license when a devastating diving accident left him a quadriplegic. Television evangelist Dr. Maxine Hancock hosts the interview in The Walt Lawrence Story (an episode from her Vision Network-aired program Hancock and Company), in which viewers learn how Lawrence overcame the flood of challenges of being newly handicapped, regained his sense of identity, and became an advocate for the dignity of the disabled, as well as a counselor for the British Columbia Rehabilitation Foundation in Vancouver. Lawrence talks about his recognition of God's hand in his life and the personal healing that came through his faith, his support network of family, friends, and church community, and his role as an educator helping to clear up misconceptions about people with handicaps. An uplifting, well-done profile, this is recommended. Aud: P. (L. Stevens)
