In the action-packed opening of the horror anime Tokyo Majin, a high school student being chased by zombies passes by a number of people who could help her, were it not for the fact that they are too busy fighting, looting, and killing one another. Unfortunately, she ends up becoming one of the many who have lately gone missing or wound up dead in the streets of Shinjuku. It's up to five teens with supernatural powers to stop the zombies, demons, and other bad people. In the first five episodes collected on this dual-language disc, rated TV-MA, viewers are introduced to the setting and characters, who are essentially teen anime archetypes—the class president, the snoopy reporter, the mysterious transfer student, the school delinquent, and jocks—just getting accustomed to their powers and likely to soon become embroiled in darker, more action-based encounters. While the series starts off a little uneven, by the end of the fifth episode, the audience will likely want to see more of the story. Recommended.
