There is lots of fun to be had in this world, and some of it includes beautiful surroundings, delicious drinks, and heart-pounding doses of adrenaline. In this series, host (and Canadian entrepreneur) Tobias Scott tackles (mostly) thrilling things on his personal bucket list is a (mostly) safe manner. In this episode, Scott heads to Southern California to try his hand at parasailing, imbibe of the grape in California’s newest wine country, and learn how to outwit life-taking rip currents. For the paragliding segment, Scott heads to the Torrey Pines area near La Jolla where a particular seaside cliff boasts the perfect conditions for paragliding, thanks to the Catalina eddy, which creates the exact same wind speeds every single day. In the riptide segment, Scott—a strong swimmer—demonstrates that while no one is a match for the deceptively powerful rip currents, there are solid strategies swimmers can use to help protect themselves. When panic sets in, a person’s natural instinct is to try to swim back to shore, but rip currents are so powerful that even Olympic swimmers are no match. The trick is to swim across the rip current (not against) towards the breaking waves, and then swim to shore (easier said than done!). A fine travelogue for the more adventurous (and physically fit), this is highly recommended. Aud: P. (C. Block)
