Cable TV is fairly littered with programs about unidentified flying objects, such as this History Channel series featuring a group of prominent researchers devoted to proving that UFOs are actually alien craft. The 13 episodes from the 2008 first season compiled here offer very little—either in the way of facts or film footage—that hasn't already been presented elsewhere. Subjects include the 1947 Roswell incident (which, to UFOlogists, is something of a religious event), the U.S. Military's Project Blue Book (designed, so the theory goes, to hide the truth in an effort to keep the public from panicking), military and police encounters with unidentified aerial craft, alien abductions, top-secret data supposedly withheld by NASA, and—bringing things up to date—the mass UFO sightings over Texas earlier this year. Although the series is well-produced and reasonably engaging, skeptics will chortle at the naïve pronouncements of the almost fanatical True Believers, who will strike many as being wrapped a little too tightly. DVD extras include additional scenes. A strong optional purchase. (E. Hulse)
