A travelogue set to the evocative music of Beethoven, Wagner, and Strauss, the two-part Visions of Germany series takes viewers on an enchanting journey through a number of picturesque, historic areas of Germany. “Bavaria” reveals charming villages where past and present merge as modern structures vie for attention with walled cities and medieval castles in this Alpine wonderland. “Along the Rhine” travels from Lake Constance to Cologne, with side trips to the fabled Black Forest, the city of Bonn, and various castles strung along the river. Although both programs aired on public TV, this DVD set incorporates bonus footage not included in the broadcast versions. Shot in high-definition using a camera mounted to a helicopter, Visions of Germany features fairy-tale-like imagery that is sure exert an almost magical fascination for armchair travelers.
