Ah...the lure of planes. Those with Top Gun fever will find suitable medicine in this 3-tape set, culled from the highly rated Wings TV series, profiling the planes which flew during the Gulf War. We watched the opening volume: "First Strike," which covered the F-15 Eagle and F-117A Nighthawk (Stealth fighter). The program opens with a nifty computer graphic which lists the plane's vital statistics, followed by a historical brief, and ending with footage and commentary on the plane's involvement in the Gulf War. The F-15 Eagle was, of course, a major player in the war--the first planes in, dropping laser-guided bombs on high security targets. The F-177A (Stealth fighter), a plane which looks aerodynamically unsound but isn't, was used for many of the multi-bombing tasks. The show closes with a brief look at the F-111 Aardvark. Volume II, "In Harm's Way," covers the Tornado and the A-6 Intruder, while Volume III, "The Final Assault," looks at the F-16 Falcon and A-10 Thunderbolt II. Nicely photographed and sure to be popular with the legion of plane buffs out there, Wings Over The Gulf is highly recommended. (Available from most distributors.)
