Teach with Movies: Celebrate Black History Month
In this session, examine and discuss three films that address events in American history:
BlackkKlansman. Directed by Spike Lee, this film tells the story of Ron Stallworth, an African American police officer from Colorado Springs, CO, who successfully manages to infiltrate the local Ku Klux Klan branch with the help of a Jewish surrogate who eventually becomes its leader.
Hidden Figures. Directed by Theordor Melfi, this film tells the story of a team of female African-American mathematicians who served a vital role in NASA during the early years of the U.S. space program.
Selma. This Oscar-winning film directed by Ava DuVernay showcases the people and events of the1965 civil rights campaign who aimed to secure equal voting rights via an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama.
