Family-owned and operated, Pioneer Drama Service expanded from humble beginnings as Shubert Fendrich’s hobby to one of the largest play publishing and licensing companies in the United States. Located in Denver, Colorado, Shubert’s son Steven and Steven’s wife Debra, both teachers by training, manage the expanded family business with the help of a large, dedicated and experienced staff. With their strong background in education, Steven and Debra deeply care about meeting the needs of teachers and their students and have developed Pioneer Drama Service into a leading play publisher for schools and community and children’s theatres.
Constantly growing for fifty years, Pioneer Drama Service is an international business with thousands of customers throughout the United States, Canada and the world, with representatives in Australia, New Zealand, Great Britain, South Africa and the Netherlands. We are proud to represent the works of more than 300 playwrights. And our reputation among writers mirrors what customers worldwide think of us: we’re friendly and easily accessible, responsive to their requests and honorable in all our business dealings.
It’s no wonder that directors like Jan come back to Pioneer Drama year after year. It’s also not surprising that hundreds of playwrights submit manuscripts to us every year in hopes of being published. Pioneer Drama’s values permeate every aspect of the business, creating long-term partnerships with teachers, directors and playwrights.
We share your passion. Like you, we believe theatre transforms lives and builds community.
