We acquire international and Australian feature films and documentaries from conceptual stage to finished products. Our theatrical slate offers a mix of high quality films for Australian and New Zealand lovers of cinema. 2017 saw the successful release of teen drama RIP TIDE, compelling Australian documentary NAMATJIRA PROJECT and the adventure film based on true events and starring Daniel Radcliffe, JUNGLE, directed by Greg McLean. 2018 had some stand out releases with the highly anticipated Australian survival thriller CARGO starring Martin Freeman, multi award winning documentary BACKTRACK BOYS, Lynne Ramsay’s YOU WERE NEVER REALLY HERE starring Joaquin Phoenix and Australian Comedy THE MERGER from the team who brought you BACKYARD ASHES in 2013.
In 2019 we were thrilled to bring to Australia and New Zealand a film 30 years in the making, Terry Gilliam’s THE MAN WHO KILLED DON QUIXOTE starring Jonathan Pryce and Adam Driver, Mads Mikkleson survivor thriller, ARCTIC, and the controversial one-two punch of Lars Von Trier’s THE HOUSE THAT JACK BUILT starring Matt Dillon and Bruno Ganz, and Jonas Åkerlund’s Black Metal true-crime drama THE LORDS OF CHAOS. Umbrella is excited to continue this slate with upcoming releases including David Robert Mitchell’s comedy-neo-noir follow up to IT FOLLOWS, UNDER THE SILVER LAKE, starring Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge) and Riley Keough (Mad Max: Fury Road), two Tribeca Official Selection films – MARTHA: A PICTURE STORY based on the iconic life and work of photographer Martha Cooper and Ant Timpson’s comedy-thriller COME TO DADDY starring Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings). Our commitment to delivering the best our local filmmakers have to offer include the gripping exploration of the South East Asian slave trade, BUOYANCY, from the producers of CARGO and AACTA award winning THE BABADOOK and Paul Ireland’s (PAWNO) contemporary riff on Shakespeare’s classic MEASURE FOR MEASURE, starring Hugo Weaving.
