Auto-B-Good ("oughta be good"--get it?) is a Christian character-building series featuring animated children who inexplicably transform into animated vehicles and have various misadventures before achieving happy resolutions and becoming children again. The initial title, A Road Less Traveled, compiles six mini-episodes--boasting charming animation and topnotch production values--that illustrate different life lessons: “Friends in High Places” (differing talents), “Heavenly Event” (sharing and sacrifice), “Sunny Side Up?” (using kind words), “Up From the Depths” (laughing at oneself), “Cooler Heads Prevail” (patience), and “Digging for Gold,” (persistence). The publicity copy states that the series was “developed by Christians who desire to see children in public schools introduced to Christian character concepts,” but there is no proselytizing or scripture-quoting in the production (although the included “Operator's Manual” booklet does contain biblical references and suggested Bible-based extension activities). Recommended. [Note: Auto-B-Good: Where the Rubber Meets the Road is also available.] Aud: K, P. (R. Reagan)
