You know “faith-based” video has hit the big time when corporate giant Sony introduces a religious line for children. Aimed at babies up to two years old, Babyfaith: God Made Music is hosted by Jodi Benson (who voiced the title character in Disney's The Little Mermaid). The program includes classic hymns and Sunday school favorites such as “Jesus Loves Me,” in addition to a puppet story of David, from his harp-playing shepherd days through his duel with Goliath and on to his reign as king (since the focus of this toddler-centered tale is on “values,” David's adulterous affair with Bathsheba and the revolt of his son Absalom aren't mentioned). In common with every other Baby Einstein knockoff to hit the market, Babyfaith also includes close-ups of brightly-colored toys (with the fishing line visible in many shots as toy cars are pulled into camera range). Although billed as a “baby” vid, my four-year-old actually paid more attention to this than our 18-month-old. Suitable for public library, church nursery, and Christian daycare centers, this is recommended, overall. Aud: K, P. (R. Reagan)
