Following her star turn in Barbie in the Nutcracker, the original American idol returns to the small screen for another empowering computer-animated romantic adventure. As you might guess, Barbie really lets her hair down here as the fairytale princess, Rapunzel, who has been secreted away from the world by the evil sorceress Gothel (regally voiced by Oscar-winner and saving grace Anjelica Huston). Rapunzel's artistic imagination and adventurous spirit (combined with a magic paintbrush) lead her outside the enchanted wall, where she meets Prince Stefan and helps bring peace to two feuding kingdoms, pitted against each other by the vengeful Gothel's trickery. Barbie's Rapunzel is a resourceful heroine who's aided by the requisite animal sidekicks, including a purple dragon named Penelope. A contemporary twist on a classic fairytale that will captivate Barbie's worshipful younger fans (though few others), this is a strong optional purchase. DVD extras include an art gallery, a dress-up game, and the documentary "The Artist in Me." Aud: P. (K. Lee Benson)
