An animated fantasy vaguely set in the mold of The Lord of the Rings (only minus the epic flavor and boundless imagination), Marc F. Adler and Jason Maurer's Delgo features the voice of Freddie Prinze Jr. in the title role as a naïve but adventurous teenager who embarks on a quest in hopes of preventing a war between his earthbound Lockni reptile-like people and the winged Nohrins ruling the skies. Delgo vows to stop the wicked Sedessa (the late Anne Bancroft)—instigator behind the most recent trouble—even though he develops a crush on one of her compatriots, the winged Princess Kyla (Jennifer Love Hewitt). While the voice cast is surprisingly distinguished for such a low-budget offering—including Burt Reynolds, Malcolm McDowell, and former Monty Python member Eric Idle—the story is weak and the animation unimpressive, both in terms of design and execution. Not recommended. (E. Hulse)
