Here's a paradox: old Albert marveled at nature and unraveled the secrets of the universe, but never questioned his chronic bad hair days? In this lively installment in the Inventors' Special Series, Einstein (superbly acted by Paul Soles) and a twelve year old African-American girl named Lannie (Lataye Studwood) both fall victim to prejudice, discrimination, oppression, and a love for red jelly beans. The program takes place in 1954 at Princeton University, during the McCarthy era when intellectuals were rounded up and grilled and school desegregation did not automatically remove racial injustice. Many of Einstein's theories are introduced as he helps Lannie discover the importance of curiosity, and in her youthful thirst for knowledge Lannie renews a bone-weary and overworked Einstein. This inexpensive top-notch production, from the producers and directors of the acclaimed Beethoven Lives Upstairs and other titles in the Composer's Specials Series, is enthusiastically recommended. Other titles available in the series include: Leonardo: A Dream of Flight, Galileo: On the Shoulders of Giants, Marie Curie: More Than Meets the Eye, Isaac Newton: A Tale of Two Isaacs and Edison: The Wizard of Light. Aud: I, J, P. (N. Plympton)
