Yo, dude. This MTV paced, hyperactive “sleeper” features Maria Carilao of Yobonics, Inc., teaching kids how to do various tricks while getting them all “wound up,” cheerleader style, over yo yo's. A visit to the National Museum of Yo Yo's in Chico, California is featured, as well as demonstrations of how to do several of the most common tricks. Really cool is seeing the largest wooden yo yo on earth, which actually looks more like a wagon wheel than a yo yo. Super awesome bitchin' cool is finding out whether or not a yo yo will work in space. The enthusiasm level of tapes like these makes me hunger for a nice, slow moving, 10 hour boxed set about Crusader architecture (just kidding, editor), but suffice it to say that this one will do just fine with kids whose primary cultural influence is the Backstreet Boys. Recommended for those without similar fare, such as Yo Yo Masters Vid-e-Yo (VL-5/99). Aud: P. (R. Ray)
