Built around the holidays and winter months, this two-part themed compilation based on Charles M. Schulz's beloved Peanuts comics opens with the 1980 special She's a Good Skate, Charlie Brown, in which Peppermint Patty trains for an upcoming regional ice skating competition under the exacting eye of coach Snoopy (who whips her up a sequined costume). The second part serves up three stories from the mid-1980s animated The Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show. “The Play” finds Charlie reminiscing about last year's wacky Christmas, especially bossy Lucy's control of the school play—forcing shy Linus to sing, making Snoopy be her ice dancing partner, and sneering as Charlie sells shabby wreaths to earn money for props. “Sweet Babboo” takes place around Valentine's Day, with the gang experiencing various relationship dramas and Charlie haunting the mailbox, hoping for a sweet note from his beloved “Little Red-Haired Girl” (whom he stalks from behind a tree near her home). Finally, “Snoopy's Story” focuses on an imaginative essay that Peppermint Patty writes on the beagle's impressive accomplishments. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
