My delightful maiden voyage into Tarrytown, the community where Jay Jay the Jet Plane and many of his associates live and work, Adventures in Learning contains five heart-warming, computer-animated adventures that each sport a useful lesson for young earthbound viewers. In the opener, A Trip to Skylandia, Jay Jay and his pal Snuffy get into a debate over the existence of sky castles, with Jay Jay saying nay nay "because I've never seen one." When he's suddenly whisked away for work, Jay Jay ends up caught in a wind spout that carries him to an unknown location with orange sky and stars and what looks suspiciously like…a cloud castle. Habitants of the castle (who resemble a number of Jay Jay's friends from Tarrytown) welcome Jay Jay to Skylandia and introduce him to their ruler, Prince Duffy. Explaining the events that led up to his arrival, Jay Jay is mocked by the royal congregation ("I fear the little plane is delirious with fever," says one), who believe there's nothing below Skylandia--because none of them have ever seen anything. Ultimately, the Skylandians are convinced of Jay Jay's story, and the little jet plane returns to Tarrytown much less skeptical than when he left. The moral of the story is to keep an open mind, and Jay Jay makes it an appealing lesson to learn. The other adventures on the disc are: Jay Jay's Butterfly Adventure, Jay Jay and the Magic Books, Tuffy's Trip to Pangabula and Tuffy's Adventure in Pangabula. The DVD also includes sing alongs, "Think About" moments, and a DVD-ROM link to games and activities. Highly recommended. Also, four more new Jay Jay the Jet Plane DVDs will be released April 23: Friends Take Flight, Soaring Sky High, Supersonic Pals and Learning Life's Little Lessons. Aud: K, E, P. (J. Williams)
