Shari Lewis has long been recognized as a one-person tour-de-force. In both of these programs, she once again displays her considerable skills. Lamb Chop, that wonderfully hammy puppet, continues to promote her "it's a lamb's world, after all" viewpoint. Together with Hush Puppy and Charlie Horse, L.C. and Shari conduct a sing-along and play-along (meaning the kids really get to do something) that combines traditional favorites, such as Old MacDonald with newer songs, such as the "turning" song, which evolves into the jumping song, and the hopping song, and the wiggling song, and so on. Lewis's humor is first-rate, and can be enjoyed by children of all ages (including those who are, like myself, in their early thirties.) Credit is also due to Norman Martin for his music and lyrics. Shari's Christmas Concert is aimed more towards general audiences, and serves as a showcase for Lewis's cornucopia of talents. Whether conducting the National Arts Center Orchestra playing Tchaikovsky, singing the William Tell Overture in two voices, leading a three girl chorus line (Shari and two mannequins), or simultaneously singing/talking/working a puppet/and playing a violin (when most of us find it difficult to march and chew bubble gum at the same time), Shari Lewis astonishes, delights, and always involves audiences. Both of these programs are highly recommended. (Available from most distributors.)
