Sony Wonder is currently in the process of developing a 26-episode Little Witch series for television, as part of its "Doors of Wonder" series. This first taste of whimsical witchcraft, simply titled Little Witch, is based on the best-selling children's books authored by Deborah Hautzig. In this initial episode, we find Little Witch, her witch mom and her witch aunts moving into a new/old, creepy house on Halloween. For those unfamiliar with Hautzig's books, Little Witch is a problem for her mother and aunts because she's a good witch. She does annoying things like cleaning up her room, making her bed and perpetrating acts of kindness instead of maleficia. One of her aunts even questions if she's a real witch. Hey, she's real. She's got a head full of spells and, though she mixes them up sometimes, she can lay down some heavy magic (as the boy next door learns). A wonderfully animated piece of work that retains some of the important visual elements of Hautzig's books. Incidentally, my four-year-old daughter says it's not scary. Highly recommended.
