The Wiggles decided to slow it down a little with their newest release, Lullabies with Love. Anthony Field directs this musical show for preschoolers and also plays Wiggle Anthony alongside friends Wiggle Emma (Watkins), Wiggle Simon (Pryce), and Wiggle Lachy (Lachlan Gillespie).
Simon sings about the magic of stories in “Once Upon a Time,” and Lachy shares his own story about the time the Wiggles babysat a baby dinosaur, Dorothy. Once Simon makes the house clean and safe for Dorothy, the Wiggles welcome the baby and make the day as fun for her (and their viewers) as possible. They take her on a walk through the neighborhood, help her go to sleep, and take her on an adventure to see Captain Feathersword on his pirate ship.
Some songs and dances will energize (“Dancing with our Wiggly Friends”), while others will calm (“Little Grey Dove”); but all will entertain. Lullabies features other recurring characters such as Officer Beaples, Flora the Door, and Shirley Shawn the Unicorn. We are even introduced to an Israeli guest, Ronnie, who guides the Wiggles and company through a Hebrew song called “Sovevu.”
This special can be a teaching experience for kids, as they will observe how gently and lovingly the Wiggles take care of their little friend. Although it may not meet the energy levels kids are used to seeing from the lively Australian squad, it still delivers a vibrant and educational experience. Recommended. Aud: K, E, P.
