Though targeted at the underage set, the Disney Channel's Emmy-nominated animated series Phineas and Ferb packs in so much absurdity and irreverence that it's hard to imagine adults won't enjoy it as well, especially fans of SpongeBob SquarePants and Family Guy, on which co-creator Dan Povenmire earned his stripes. Aside from Anglo-American stepbrothers Phineas Flynn (voiced by Vincent Martella) and Ferb Fletcher (Thomas Sangster), regular characters include helpful pal Isabella (Alyson Stoner), Phineas' older sister Candace (Ashley Tisdale), their mother Linda Flynn-Fletcher (Caroline Rhea), and Candace's crush Jeremy (Mitchel Musso). In addition, we meet family pet Perry the Platypus (Dee Bradley Baker), aka Agent P, who secretly battles the evil Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz (Povenmire) in each ‘toon. This compilation presents five two-part episodes from the first season, all of which are set during the 104 days of summer vacation. Adventures include constructing a haunted house to scare the hiccups out of Isabella (“One Good Scare Ought to Do It!”), putting together a souped-up racecar (“The Fast and the Phineas”), and building a backyard beach (“Lawn Gnome Beach Party of Terror”). DVD extras include four virtual arcade games, and Povenmire's original pitch to Disney executives. Recommended. Aud: P. (K. Fennessy)
