This entry in Goosebumps creator R.L. Stine's Mostly Ghostly YA horror fantasy series is a sequel to the original 2008 Disney Channel movie Mostly Ghostly. A little background: smarmy teen Max (Ryan Ochoa) has a special ring that he used in the past to both thwart the dastardly plans of evil ghost Phears (Charlie Hewson) and protect sibling ghosts Tara (Madison Pettis, reprising her role from the first film) and Nicky (Roshon Fegan)—whom only Max can see. Dark spirit Phears (who looks like Voldemort crossed with Rocky Horror Picture Show's Riff Raff) now has a new plot to obtain the powerful ring and tries to use the ghost of a Moscow circus performer to get it. Aside from that storyline, Max also slacks off on helping Tara and Nicky become reunited with their parents, crushes on a popular girl (Bella Thorne), and snarkily bonds with Grandma (Joan Rivers, in one of her last performances). A corny film that is nevertheless sure to be popular, this is recommended, overall. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
