Based on books by Jill Thompson, this holiday-themed computer-animated sequel to Scary Godmother: Halloween Spooktakular picks up a year later. Last year, jerky ‘tween Jimmy got super scared by his little cousin Hannah's monster buddies (Hannah has a magical key that keeps her connected with the titular Scary Godmother and her alternate world of the “Fright Side”). Jimmy (who is so fearful he hallucinates monsters in his spaghetti) has hatched a plan to screw up this year's Halloween so that he won't be freaked out again! While Hannah and the rest of her pals make preparations to celebrate, Jimmy chooses to ruin whatever he can (i.e., secretly damage the town's pumpkins, mislabeling candy and costumes by marking them “poison” and “flammable,” etc.). When the Scary Godmother informs Hannah that Jimmy's actions are causing damage to the whimsical, comically spooky Fright Side, feisty Hannah comes up with her own plan of action for making sure the Halloween tradition continues, no matter what. DVD extras include deleted scenes. Definitely wacky, this Cartoon Network-aired festive supernatural comedy—the highest rated special for boys 6-11—is a treat and recommended. Aud: P. (J. Williams-Wood)
