Although the programs themselves are nearly five years old, these two entries from Canada's Sharon, Lois, & Bram's Elephant Show which airs on Nickelodeon, are new to the home video market. In Soap Box Derby, the singing trio and their extended family of neighborhood kids decide to enter the soap box derby--the day before the race. Mixing traditional music and newly written lyrics, Sharon, Lois, and Bram sing a slew of infectious tunes while preparing for the race. One of the highlights features children's troubadour Eric Nagle, singing a song about his beloved soap box car, as he drives, and parts fall off one by one. Who Stole the Cookies? revolves around a culinary mystery. Lois, a chocolate-chip cookie baker extraordinaire made a batch of 60 cookies, yet by mid-afternoon, only one is left. Who's the culprit? As the show progresses, we see that everybody had a hand or two in the cookie jar. An absolutely hilarious sequence has Bram learning to ride a make-believe motorcycle with a friend, using sound effects from a kazoo. Both of these superb titles are highly recommended for public libraries. (Available from most distributors.)
