Sing Along Songs: Home on the Range--Little Patch of Heaven

Demand for this slapdash roundup of musical montages culled from Disney films and TV shows will probably depend on the success of the theatrical release of Disney's 44th animated feature, Home on the Range. Leading the herd here are three songs from that new film--“Little Patch of Heaven," sung by k.d. lang, "Yodel-Adle-Eedle-Idle-Oo," and "Anytime You Need a Friend”--that are amiable enough, but not likely to cause a stampede to theaters. Disney also poaches its cartoon library for re-cut images to accompany traditional childhood favorites, including "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," "The Farmer in the Dell," "Home on the Range," and "Oh, Susanna!" Clumsy narration by Home on the Range's Maggie the Cow (voiced by Roseanne) links the songs. Sing Along Songs, once one of Disney's bestselling video brands has gone to the well once too often: whatever gold there was in the Disney vaults has long since been mined, and one must wonder what these knockoff programs are doing to the once-trusted Disney brand.
