Previously released under the title Video Music Box Story Songs, this outstanding paean to the imagination is quality children's programming at a remarkably low price. Singer/songwriter Don Cooper is the creative storyteller behind this concept video, which features "The Video Music Box Man" (Cooper) singing clever songs that are brought to life through animation, live action, and puppets. Children operate the colorful hand puppets in Cooper's rendition of "The Three Little Pigs" which, unlike modern adaptations, does not tone down the original story. In another song, a group of children do exercises along with Roger the Robot. One beautiful sequence follows the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. An animated sequence finds the toys in Willie's bedroom packing up and leaving because he mistreats them so badly. And in the centerpiece, the story of Seymour the crab follows a live-action crab (sporting spectacles) as he makes his way out into the big wide world, only to discover that what he was searching for was at home, all along. If you missed this title the first time around, now's your chance to pick up the lowest-priced quality kidvid we've ever seen. Highly recommended. (Available from most distributors.)
