Someday

Narrated by author Alison McGhee, this animated adaptation of her 2007 picture book— illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds—features a delicate winds soundtrack from Masaru Sugimoto. Combining pastel colors and squiggly lines, Someday focuses on a mother's wishes for her child—from the gurgling baby whose fingers and toes she kissed to the tight handholding youngster she helps cross the street. Looking forward, the mother talks about her child's future—from engaging in activities such as bike riding and enjoying bedtime stories to decidedly more tenuous claims including attending university and having children (“someday I will watch you brushing your child's hair”). Also featuring a read-along option, this sentimental meditation on living life to the fullest—albeit according to a loving mother's definitions—is a strong optional purchase. Aud: K, P. (J.
