Featuring both English and Spanish versions, Colossal Tales, the first volume in the computer-animated The Adventures of Carlos Caterpillar series, follows spry young Carlos and his friends on a fun trip to the water park. Well, it would be fun if Carlos hadn't fibbed about his “seven medals” for diving in order to impress cute new student Lety, whose arrival has spurred many of the boys (including beanie-wearing classmate Sluggy) into becoming competitive. At the park, Carlos' delusions of grandeur are tested when Sluggy dares him to jump from the perilous “Colossus” high board in front of everyone, but a visit from Carlos' butterfly uncle Pedro reassures him that admitting the truth—and being yourself—is a better way to live…and, who knows, maybe Lety might just like him for him. DVD extras include “Meet the Characters” segments. A solid, inexpensive children's guidance program with a few fun calypso-like tunes, this is recommended. [Note: also newly available in The Adventures of Carlos Caterpillar series are Topsy-Turvy and No Prize Surprise.] Aud: K, P. (J. Williams-Wood)
