In the old, old days of World's Finest comic books, Superman and Batman got along like kittens from the same litter. In today's less optimistic world, they hold a grudging respect for one another, and their sporadic teamwork is more shotgun wedding than camaraderie. The Batman-Superman Movie is a re-telling of their legendary partnership, full of sniping, competition, and testosterone-fueled put-downs. While the occasion for their first meeting is a sinister collaboration between the Joker and Lex Luthor, it's Bruce Wayne's sudden courtship of Lois Lane that causes the real sparks to fly in Metropolis. This feature-length drama (originally a three-episode story on television) looks good, sports snappy dialogue, and serves up a fine contribution to superhero lore. Also newly available at the same prices: Batman: The Animated Series--The Legend Begins, Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero, and Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (in its original, uncut, PG-13 rated version).
