The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus

This animated adaptation of L. Frank Baum's book lays on the enchantment a bit thick (fairies and nymphs and pixies, oh my!). Robbie Benson is the voice of Nicholas, an abandoned baby raised by a wood nymph (Dixie Carter). The plot finds the good-hearted Nick, who despairs of the "great unhappiness in the human world," discovering that "making toys for children is what I was meant to do." Stick with the Rankin/Bass stop-motion holiday perennial, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, instead of this uninspired effort. Not recommended. Aud: P. (K. Lee Benson)
