In this holiday special from the Christian-themed VeggieTales series, set in London circa the 1880s (strangely, sans accents or other identifiers), VeggieTales luminaries Bob the tomato and Larry the cucumber star as Cavis and Millward, friends who hope to teach Londoners "to love" by mounting a silly, festive musical entitled "The Princess and the Plumber." While the buddies are angling for a good review from the resident prince, they are dismayed to find that his highness will be attending a rival pageant--put on by young Junior Asparagus as Edmund--that will feature a precious relic (the titular Star of Christmas). In desperation, Cavis cooks up a scheme to steal the star, setting off an action-packed chain of events (including corny chase scenes and a rocket-powered road race) before the inevitably scrupulous ending stressing the "real" meaning of Christmas love. All in all, a solid combination of winning premise and lovable familiar characters, the DVD edition is packed with bonus features, including an audio commentary, behind the scenes footage, trivia challenge, sing-along, and recipes. Recommended. Aud: P. (J. Williams)
