Wild About Safety with Timon and Pumbaa: Safety Smart Goes Green!

Since their first appearance in 1994's The Lion King, animated meerkat Timon and warthog Pumbaa have furthered their 15 minutes of fame with sequels, a TV series, and now educational guidance programs in the Wild About Safety series. Focusing on the three R's—reduce, reuse, and recycle—this entry finds the duo discovering that their favorite vacation spot is totally trashed, which gives them the opportunity to explain the importance of recycling, conserving resources (including turning off lights not in use), and all of us doing our part to take care of the planet…including Timon (who doesn't think twice about tossing an empty water bottle until he's reminded, “It is a big deal…it's littering!”). Combining colorful animation with relevant live-action footage to illustrate the concepts presented here, Safety Smart Goes Green! is designed for grades K-3.
