Wise Owl and his niece, Wendy Owl, learn what's cool, what's healthy, and what's smart regarding drug safety in this three-part program that serves up anti-drug and alcohol education aimed at very young viewers while also presenting strategies for making sensible choices along the way. Each segment features an introduction with the animated pair, followed by illustrative live-action vignettes that are well-acted by a diverse group of early-elementary-age children. Both the scenarios and dialogue are realistic, featuring several interactive critical-thinking points in which Wise Owl asks viewers to make the right choice. “Is That Good for Me?” looks at good decisions related to eating and discusses activities for a growing body. “What Is a Drug?” specifically talks about alcohol and tobacco, emphasizing that some things that are OK for grown-ups are not acceptable for kids. Finally, “What Is Medicine?” covers basic safety practices with medications, and also stresses the importance of turning to family adults for help. While the price may be prohibitive for many, the high quality of both the video and the accompanying resources (including posters, stickers, and “Healthy or Not” activity cards) makes this a fine choice.
