Yard Sale

In this iconographic-animated adaptation of author Eve Bunting and illustrator Lauren Castillo's 2015 picture book, narrated by Susie Berneis, young Callie is a little unsure about her parents' plans to move and sell nearly all of the family's worldly goods in a yard sale. Even the small new apartment's unique Murphy bed doesn't excite the girl, especially when she watches her real headboard get marked down to $5 after a haggling woman points out the crayon marks (tallying Callie's readings of Goodnight, Moon). Callie tries to stop a bearded man from walking off with her bike, and Dad must step in to explain that he sold it. A poignant hugfest ensues after Callie overreacts when a lady asks “Are you for sale?” Also featuring a read-along option, this somewhat cloying attempt at dealing with serious social issues is a strong optional purchase.
