Stars: Harrison Ford (Patriot Games, Presumed Innocent, Star Wars), Sean Young (Sketch Artist, A Kiss Before Dying), Rutger Hauer (Split Second), Daryl Hannah (At Play in the Fields of the Lord, Memoirs of an Invisible Man). Re-released in yet another version, director Ridley Scott's 1982 sci-fi cult classic Blade Runner enjoyed a $4 million dollar run in its latest incarnation and is now coming to home video at 50% off the standard major release price ($39.99). Most already know the story, set in future Los Angeles, where Blade runner Deckard (Harrison Ford) is assigned to find and kill a group of Replicants (androids), who have escaped from an off-planet work colony in a bid to find their creator on Earth and ask for longer lives. How does the "new" film differ? Not as much as the press would have you think. Ford's voiceover narration has been dropped, two scenes of violence in the first video version have been cut (Daryl Hannah hooking her fingers into Ford's nostrils, and Rutger Hauer gouging out the eyes of his maker), and the "happy" daylight ending is gone. Has anything been added? Yep. One 10-second clip of Ford daydreaming about a unicorn (that very much looks like an outtake from Scott's follow-up film Legend), which is meant to suggest that Ford may be a Replicant, but is just confusing instead. The other "addition" is that this version is released in a letterboxed, widescreen format, which really shows off the film's superior art direction and set design. Audience: Sci-fi fans will definitely want to see this.
