Stars: Ned Beatty (Deliverance, Network), Adrian Pasdar (Cookie, Vital Signs), Shirley Anne Field (My Beautiful Laundrette). Hear My Song opens with so much forced charm that you have to dig in your heels and frown in self-defense. It's a losing battle though, and by film's end you feel like you're walking on air with an ear-to-ear grin. Adrian Pasdar plays Mickey Neill, a fast-talking Irish nightclub manager who's bombing with the owners and the public (he books novelty singers like "Phrank Cinatra.") Given one last chance, Mickey brings in the infamous tenor Joe Locke--who escaped deep into the countryside after being charged with tax evasion some 25 years previous. Unfortunately for Mickey, his girlfriend's mom (a "Miss Dairy Delight" from the 50s) points out that the Joe Locke whom Mickey has booked is an imposter. Losing both his nightclub and his girlfriend, Mickey hits the road on a quest to find the real Josef Locke (Beatty), and bring him back to the city for one more concert. That's when the fun really begins. Hear My Song is a warm and witty film that gradually builds to both a crowd-pleasing and narratively satisfying conclusion. Audience: Just about anyone looking for a pleasant evening's entertainment.
