Stars: Beau Bridges (The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom, The Fabulous Baker Boys), Stockard Channing (Grease, Heartburn), Robert Sean Leonard (Swing Kids, Much Ado About Nothing), Mary Stuart Masterson (Benny & Joon, Fried Green Tomatoes), Cybill Shepherd (TV's "Moonlighting," The Last Picture Show), Ron Silver (Reversal of Fortune, Lifepod). A very flimsy premise offers the opportunity for some clever commentary on the ups and downs of married life in this ensemble piece which sat on Orion's shelves for a couple of years. The premise has three unlikely couples coming together to plan a school fundraiser: John (Bridges) and Iris (Channing), an appealing and very funny pair of 60s survivors who still believe in the brotherhood of man (John works in social services and is constantly depressed); Leo (Silver) and Claire (Shepherd), a very unappealing upscale couple who fight over Leo's daughter from his first marriage; and Chuck (Leonard) and Nina (Masterson), yuppies with a twist--he's a stockbroker, she's a hick school psychologist. If you ignore the fact that Angela Davis would stand a better chance of gaining the Presidency than these three couples would have of being regular chums, then Married To It has some likable moments and more than a few insights. Still, it's a pretty hit and miss affair, and Chuck's being accused of "stockparking" is not the most exciting crisis ever introduced to galvanize a film's second half. Audience: People will be drawn by the ensemble cast, and the Bridges/Channing relationship alone almost makes the film worth watching.
