This 1949 follow-up to Anchors Aweigh finds salts Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra, along with fellow shipman Jules Munshin, once again on shore leave--this time in the Big Apple--where they find the women of their dreams, and then sing and dance around town until it's time to ship out. Better than Anchors, though not by much, with some nice production numbers and a fine score by Bernstein, this isn't the classic tuner it's sometimes cracked up to be. Still, considering the very good video transfer and good audio, not to mention the film's popularity, this is a strong, optional purchase. (S. C. Sickles)
