Writing in VL-9/95, Randy Pitman said: "Tim Allen stars in this reasonably entertaining seasonal comedy as a man who gets shanghaied into a strange job: being Santa Claus. Not the best Christmas film to come down the pike, but still a fun, low-priced entry that the whole family can enjoy." Available in both widescreen and full screen editions, with a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, the "special edition" DVD also includes a "So You Wanna Be An Elf" segment helmed by returning "Arch Elf" David Krumholtz; the "Santa's Helper" navigation and trivia game, featuring the "Silly Symphonies" animated short "The Night Before Christmas" as a prize; and a 16-minute "Making Santa's Snacks" featurette with help from illustrious chef Wolfgang Puck. Sure to be popular, especially considering the box office success of the new sequel, this is recommended. (J. Williams)
