These two productions are about as slick and entertaining as they come, and will likely hold the interest of even non-baseball fan viewers. A Bashing Success chronicles the wild and woolly 1988 season of the Oakland Athletics, from their explosive early season club record 14 straight wins to their final loss at the hands of the L.A. Dodgers in the World Series. Individual record shots are interwoven into the main narrative, giving the story a personal face. We can't help but root when first baseman Jose Canseco becomes the first player in history to join the 40/40 club (40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season). In the second tape, the expansion Seattle Mariners club's history is told through 1986-their first decade. From the original ownership by the late Danny Kaye through the rise to prominence of pitcher Mark Langston -and the hopes for the '87 season -A Diamond in the Rough is exciting, well-produced, sports drama. (And even though our Mariners are basically in the cellar as usual-we look forward to a different ending to the video which covers the second decade.) (Available from most large distributors.)
