Based on his best-selling book, Outrage: The Five Reasons Why O.J. Simpson Got Away With Murder, author and former Los Angeles County prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi's (Helter Skelter) video version of his examination of the O.J. Simpson murder case walks the viewer step by step through the prosecution's handling of the case, pointing out major errors along the way. The first four volumes present an analysis of the case, while in the final two, Bugliosi offers the 3½ hour summation he would have presented had he been prosecuting the case. Combining courtroom footage and interviews with key figures, Bugliosi serves up a compelling argument and thorough autopsy of the case that will help the viewer understand how and why the jury arrived at a "not guilty" verdict. Only slightly less complicated than the Simpson case itself are the pricing options available. The Library Edition, priced at $249.95, includes the 12-hour program on 6 tapes with public performance rights. The Professional Edition, priced at $129.95, is geared toward law professionals, and includes the same 12-hour program on 6 tapes only without public performance rights. The Consumer Edition has been considerably condensed down to a single volume 2-hour tape for 39.95. As a layperson, I found the 12-hour program a bit long winded (on the other hand, I'm not sure how the unseen 2-hour program could have been so whittled down without leaving out key elements); however, students would find this close examination of the trial very useful in case analysis. Overall, legal studies, criminal justice, law, debate and communications students will find this set very useful, as will public library patrons with a die-hard interest in the case. Highly recommended. Aud: H, C, P. (L. Stevens)
