On September 19-20, 1863, Union and Confederate forces fought along Georgia's Chickamauga Creek in one of the bloodiest engagements of the Civil War--ultimately resulting in a short-lived victory for the South. Adam Killogg's Diary recreates the battle using the framing device of a fictitious British journalist named Adam Killogg, whose interviews with many of the principals involved at Chickamauga--including Confederate leader Braxton Bragg, who comes under criticism by most of his subordinates--are presented in dramatic vignettes by a group of actors whose skills vary from stunning to stilted. Overall, the combination of on-location filming, authentic period music, and a very affordable price, make this program--which succeeds in emphasizing the human side of the Civil War--a good choice for larger collections.
