These three videos are all part of the "Medical Education for the Community" series of informational tapes. Each follows the same basic format--opening with a montage of interview clips with people off the street who express a wide variety of opinions and/or definitions on the subject of the program. Following the "misinformed" answers of the general public, series host Jack Palance, along with professionals in the field, relate the facts concerning the disease under discussion. And these are serious diseases. In America alone, some 55 million adults suffer from hypertension (high blood pressure); some 12 million are diabetics; and the death count of AIDS victims continues to escalate unchecked. Each of these programs uses simple, but effective, graphics together with clear explanations of both the disease and the available options for treating it. There are, at the moment, very few moderately priced videos on the subjects of hypertension and diabetes available. Nor has research uncovered any major new information in these areas in the past couple of years (all of the titles are 1986 productions.) Videos on the subject of AIDS, however, are plentiful, and there are a number which are more up-to-date and less expensive. Diabetes and Hypertension are recommended for general collections. (See COLORADO'S NARROW GAUGE RAILROADS for availability.)
