Filmed in Szczecin, Poland in 2018 and 2019, All About Love pulls the best content from interviews with 80 couples and individuals of all adult ages and sexual orientations to discuss the topic of love: their perception of its meaning, and its role in their lives. The first question posed to the interviewees is simply: what is your definition of love? Other topics discussed are how the couples met, how they deal with conflict in their relationship, and other pertinent issues related to love.
An interesting conversation centers around the idea of love at first sight. Many stated they fell in love with their partner when they first met; however, the discussion soon turns to the philosophical of question what it means to love a person. As one interviewee states, while you can fall in love at first sight, it is not true love but an infatuation with their appearance. Love only develops as one gets to know their partner.
One interesting aspect of the educational documentary is watching the couples' non-verbal interactions, such as when someone first looks to their partner to gauge how they should answer. It would be interesting to hear their responses without their partner present.
The only drawback to All About Love is the total running time. At 164 minutes, this film will have a limited audience; however, the breakdown into chapters allows for segmented viewing. While this title is not a necessary purchase for film collections, it will support curriculums in psychology, sociology, and marriage and family. Optional for academic libraries.
