This excellent documentary on America's best known 20th century photographer is based on conversations with Ansel Adams and shot on location at his home and studio in Big Sur, California, and amidst other beautiful Western scenery that inspired his work for over sixty years. Accompanied by images of many of Adams' most famous pictures, the photographer speaks about his artistic vision, the development of his techniques, and the turning points in his career. While the film does not get into extreme technical detail, it does provide insight into the evolution of Adams' unique style through camera and darkroom techniques. The result is enjoyable and enlightening for both camera buffs and non-photographers. Recommended for photographic history or art collections in high school, college, and public libraries.
