While Agatha Christie's Belgian detective Hercule Poirot has been played on both stage and screen by many notable actors, the performer who is arguably most associated with the role is David Suchet, who starred in the British TV series Agatha Christie's Poirot over a 25-year run. In this documentary by filmmaker Chris Malone, Suchet details his long association with the part, discussing how he studied Christie's novels to create the distinctive voice, walk, and mannerisms that brought the character to life. Suchet also visits Christie's summer home in Devon to meet with her grandson, Mathew Prichard, and makes a journey to Brussels to explore how the locals (including the city's mayor) view the legendary Belgian detective. While Suchet's series covered all of the Christie novels and short stories featuring Poirot, this film gives extra attention to the 2010 production of Murder on the Orient Express, with Suchet riding the fabled train to recall how his version differed from the classic 1974 film. Throughout, Suchet is a charming raconteur who is constantly amazed that his Poirot had such a strong impact on so many viewers. The one oddity here is the presence of Stanley Tucci as an onscreen host—he seems to have no connection to Suchet's work and his repeated appearances to introduce segments feel intrusive. But otherwise this entertaining behind-the-scenes profile is likely to delight fans of Suchet's acclaimed series. Extras include bonus interviews with Suchet and Prichard. Recommended. Aud: P. (P.
