A documentary on school violence from a Christian perspective, Bulletproof? is hosted by singer/songwriter Steven Curtis Chapman, whose high school in Paducah, Kentucky was the site of the tragic murder of three students. Divided into three segments which look at the impact, causes, and possible remedies of school violence, the video identifies the media, video games, desensitization to violence, peer pressure and Chapman's assertion that our "so-called progress as a society has been the systematic removal of God from school" as primary causes of violence today. Suggested remedies include setting better role models and mentors in schools who lead and teach by example, convincing kids to report weapon-carrying students to the proper authorities, and learning to identify the warning signs of a potentially dangerous child (excessive feelings of rejection or isolation, a victim of violence at home, uncontrolled anger and rage, poor school attention, etc.). The basic thesis of the video and the accompanying discussion guide is found in Romans 12:21--"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good," and while the unabashedly Christian perspective may not be every viewer's cup of tea, the video presents some good advice and undeniably powerful scenes of families plunged into grief by sudden and unexpected violence. Recommended. Aud: J, H, P. (S. Fisher)
