The horror of fire and its terrible legacy of damage and burns could have lead the videomakers to a melodramatic treatment, but compassion mixed with information quietly rule instead. A surgeon, nurse, psychologist, social worker, and physical therapist explain wound care, types of burns, shock, skin grafts and scarring. They also examine the emotional scars left by the pain and fear, which can lead to nightmares and depression. However, beyond the many clinical details, optimism and a strong hope for recovery prevail--children who once suffered severe burns are shown back on the playground, talking to friends. Having literally come through the fire, these kids are courageous, brave and well on their way to resuming normal lives. Well-made and full of straight-talk and heart, this is highly recommended for large medical collections. (E. Druda)

As of March 2022, Video Librarian has changed from a four-star rating system to a five-star one. This change allows our reviewers to have a wider range of critical viewpoints, as well as to synchronize with Google’s rating structure. This change affects all reviews from March 2022 onwards. All reviews from before this period will still retain their original rating. Future film submissions will be considered our new 1-5 star criteria.
