It used to be that cream and sugar were the only condiments added to coffee. In Amsterdam, it's marijuana. At least, that's what we learn in Cannabis Rising, a light-hearted, not to mention light-headed, approach to the Dutch's decriminalization of dope. We're shown the easygoing attitude of the Dutch as they sip coffee and roll joints throughout thousands of the city's hash coffee shops, without the threat of police knocking down the door. In a scatterbrained sort-of-way, Cannabis Rising delves into the legalization controversy with a comparison between America's War on Drugs and the Dutch's pacifist policy toward pot, which has lasted for over 25 years. Cannabis' medical benefits are also rehashed, as well as the economical aspects of using hemp as fuel or fiber. Ultimately, however, Cannabis Rising blows a lot of smoke, with little or no comprehensive organization, and is therefore not recommended. Aud: C, P. (M. K. Lau)
