The first in a series on faith-based life, Christian Family: Blest by God combines strong visuals and a substantive message about what constitutes a family. Written by religious educator David A. Galusha, who authored the Being Catholic series, the program notes that typical family variations—nuclear, extended, adoptive, single-parent, childless—are nothing new, as folks through the ages have adjusted to accommodate to real-life situations. What all of the iterations have in common in religious families, however, is a bond that draws the members together in sharing the joys and responsibilities of being part of God's plan (religious heritage cited in the Old and New Testaments provides lessons on forming and nourishing those crucial links). And while all kinds of problems are a normal part of familial relationships, the film stresses that it is important to work through them with love and respect, seeking help and support when needed, while also praying. Highly recommended. Aud: P. (J. Reed)
